The talk focuses on the presence of ethical challenges and dilemmas in daily life and, in turn, how we can learn to best respond to these challenges. I contend that, from a young age, we are all "everyday ethicists" with ethical concerns and that ethics education (starting win childhood and continuing throughout life) should be seen as an essential part of our schooling. To illustrate what I mean by ethics education I also discuss my own ethics and philosophical education work with young children (aged 3-5 years) through a project called "Philosophical Ethics in Early Childhood" (or, the PEECh Project): http://rockethics.psu.edu/initiatives/ethics-education/programs/moral-literacy/PEECh/overview. In this project I discuss ethical issues with children - relating to fairness, empathy, well being, and inclusion of others - through the use of children's literature, artwork, and games. The goal here is to understand the ethical concerns of young children, to respect children as ethical persons, and to help them continue to develop relevant skill sets for ethical agency in the world.
