Bruce has been a director of AMD, the global semiconductor company, since 2003 and was appointed Chairman in 2009. In January 2011, he was appointed a non-employee Executive Chairman of the board after the resignation of the CEO and held that position until the new CEO was appointed in August. 2011.
Previously, Bruce was President, CEO, and Board Director of 3Com, a global leader in voice and data networking products and services, from 2001 to 2006. He also held senior leadership positions with Digital and IBM.
Bruce serves on the board of directors for Ciena Corporation. He also is Founder, Director, and President of Kids First!, a non-profit corporation supporting the educational needs of the children of St. John, in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
He and his wife Kerry established the Bruce and Karen Claflin Scholarship in Liberal Arts and the Claflin Family Graduate Fund in the College of the Liberal Arts.
Penn State named Bruce an Alumni Fellow in 1998 and a Distinguished Alumnus in 2001. He is a member of the Liberal Arts Development Council.
