Douglas (Doug) Rock
For more than twenty years, Doug led Smith International, a global provider of oil and natural gas exploration and development products and services. Under his leadership, Smith grew from approximately $200 million in revenues to more than $8 billion in revenues before its merger with Schlumberger Limited, the world’s largest oilfield services company, in 2009.
Today, Doug serves on the board of directors for Trinity Industries, Inc., headquartered in Dallas, Texas, which provides products and services to the industrial, energy, transportation, and construction sectors.
Named a Penn State Alumni Fellow and Distinguished Alumnus, Doug is Chairman of the Rock Ethics Institute External Advisory Board and member of the Liberal Arts Development Council. He also served on the University's For the Future: The Campaign for Penn State Students Campaign Executive Committee. Doug and his wife, Julie, endowed the Rock Ethics Institute, its directorship, and the dean’s chair in the College of the Liberal Arts. They also supported the Moore Building project for the Department of Psychology.
