Stephen W Schaeffer
Stephen W. Schaeffer got a B.S. in biology from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1978, an M.S. in biology from West Virginia University in 1980, and a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Georgia in 1985. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University with Richard Lewontin from 1985 to 1988. He joined the faculty in the biology department at Penn State in 1988. His research interests are in molecular population genetics and genomics where he works to understand the genetic mechanisms responsible for the origin and maintenance of chromosomal rearrangements.
