UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s College of Nursing (https://www.nursing.psu.edu/) announces an open-rank tenure line faculty position starting in 2021 focusing on health ethics and access to care as it relates to research targeting, understanding, and responding to the needs of individuals residing in rural communities, either domestic or international. Preference will be given to a senior candidate who is at the Associate or Full Professor level. The successful applicant will be a leader in a program of research with demonstrated impact on policy and/or practice, a strong publication record, and a track record of securing external funding. This position is co-funded with Penn State’s Rock Ethics Institute (https://rockethics.psu.edu/). Faculty appointed to this position will be core faculty with the Rock Ethics Institute which is recognized nationally and internationally for its leadership in integrating ethics across academic fields. The goal of the co-funded appointment is to expand our faculty expertise and to provide national and international academic leadership in ethics. Faculty hired through this initiative will strengthen an interdisciplinary community of scholars and educators, will be leaders in ethics research and education throughout the University, and will help integrate ethics into the teaching and research programs of all our academic units while also contributing to the College of Nursing’s mission. The College of Nursing seeks a faculty member who is interested in and committed to participating in an interdisciplinary community of scholars at Penn State contributing to the University’s initiative on Health Ethics, Ecology, and Policy initiative (HEEP).

Responsibilities include directing a research program focused on ethical issues impacting rural health care, such as, but not limited to: access to care, emerging models of care delivery, emerging technology/precision medicine, vulnerable populations, ethical nursing practice, and health law and policy. Fostering collaborations with colleagues in other disciplines, as well as, faculty in the Center for Geriatric Nursing Excellence, the Safe-T Center within the College of Nursing, and across 14 Penn State Campus locations including Hershey Medical Center where nursing programs are located is expected. In addition to accelerating strong collaborative interdisciplinary research, the new faculty member will teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses and direct dissertations. The successful candidate also will mentor faculty with similar or complementary research foci. In addition to accelerating strong collaborative interdisciplinary research, the new faculty member will engage in outreach activities that disseminate research on ethics and access to care to a range of stakeholders, including policymakers, nurses, and other practitioners at national, regional, and local conferences and meetings. We seek a colleague who will pursue a program of externally funded research that is published in highly-regarded, peer-reviewed journals within the fields of nursing, ethics, and health services research.

The College of Nursing is one of the most comprehensive colleges of nursing in any public university in the country. With over $12 million in research expenditures since the college’s inception in 2013, the College has been awarded over $8 million for gerontology research, over $4 million for the development of a sexual assault forensic examination telehealth center (SAFE-T Center), and approximately $1.5 million to support clinical and translational science. With over 2,100 undergraduate students and approximately 200 graduate students, our footprint is world-wide with our faculty creating immeasurable experiences for our students around the globe. We offer four undergraduate degree programs as well as six advanced degree programs. The College of Nursing resides primarily at the University Park Campus but has programs across 12 campus locations and on the World Campus.
