Ethics Education icon 2014The Ethics and Education Interest Group began in the 2014 Fall Semester and is directed by Dr. Michael D. Burroughs (Acting Associate Director, Rock Ethics Institute). The group is dedicated to creating an interdisciplinary community for those interested in discussing and researching issues at the intersection of ethics and education. The group is open to all faculty and students in the Penn State community (and beyond). Although not exhaustive, areas of interest for the group include (1) ethics, education, and marginalized populations, (2) ethics and educational policy, (3) pedagogy and interpersonal ethics in the classroom, (4) moral development and models of ethics education, (5) and ethical leadership and the ethical implementation of educational programming.

The Ethics and Education Interest Group has been holding monthly meetings throughout the 2014-2015 academic year. During the 2015 Spring Semester group members are presenting ethically relevant research-in-progress to receive group feedback and to develop research and project collaborations. Presentation topics have been diverse, ranging from talks on Common Core equity and ethics and ethical pedagogy in early childhood classroom to ethics education programming for adolescents in Peru and the ethics of teaching climate change. Group members are currently planning relevant presentations for upcoming Rock Ethics Institute events, including the 2015 Moral Literacy Colloquium and the 20th Annual CSLEE Values and Leadership Conference. For more information on the group or to join our listserv, please contact Dr. Michael D.
