REI postdoctoral scholar Bono Shih co-authors book on the role of engineers in shaping Taiwan’s identity
University Park, Pa. — Bono Shih, postdoctoral scholar in the Rock Ethics Institute, has co-authored the newly published book Engineers and the Two Taiwans.
This book examines how engineers, influenced by contrasting geographical identities as islanders and mainlanders, shaped Taiwan’s industrial evolution and national identity. Through the lens of the electronics industry, the authors explore how technical work can influence broader societal and political dynamics.
Part of the Synthesis Lectures on Global Engineering series, the book offers a unique perspective on how engineers navigated geopolitical tensions and contributed to Taiwan’s rise as a global technological leader.
