The Crawford Family Fellowship in Ethical Inquiry is awarded each year to one PhD candidate in the College of the Liberal Arts who has exhibited academic excellence and whose dissertation research falls in the area of ethical inquiry.

This year-long fellowship covers both a student's tuition and stipend. In addition, the student who receives the award is named a fellow in the Rock Ethics Institute, which provides them a $1,000 scholarship to support their research and related activities.

Students cannot directly apply for this fellowship, but rather are nominated by the Director of Graduate Studies in their department.

The fellowship recipient is announced at the end of the spring semester. Previous and current fellows have written on sentencing guidelines, the reproductive care and advice women received in the 19th century, critical philosophy of race, and the intersection between public health and human rights.
