Fellowships and Awards

The Rock Ethics Institute funds a variety of positions and initiatives. Our current funding opportunities are:

Stand Up Awards

The annual Stand Up Awards recognize Penn State undergraduate students who have demonstrated ethical leadership by "standing up" for a cause, idea, or belief.

Doctoral Fellowship Awards

Humanities graduate students working on ethics-related topics can become Rock Ethics Institute Fellows through the Humanities Dissertation Release program or the Crawford Fellowship program.

Rock Ethics Undergraduate Fellows

Paterno Fellows are eligible to apply for an REI fellowship. REI fellows receive $1,000 in fellowship support and assist Institute faculty on interdisciplinary ethics projects.

Center and Institute Fellows Program

The Humanities Dissertation Release Program allows the College of the Liberal Arts, in conjunction with CLA departments, to provide a one-semester release from teaching or related service.

Rock Ethics Undergraduate Fellows

Paterno Fellows are eligible to apply for an REI fellowship. REI fellows receive $1,000 in fellowship support and assist Institute faculty on interdisciplinary ethics projects.

Paterno Fellows Thesis and Research Awards

The Rock Ethics Institute provides financial support for Paterno Fellows working on ethics-related topics and research within or in preparation for their honors thesis.

Faculty:

Faculty in the College of the Liberal Arts may only accept one internal fellowship award from the college or its affiliated centers, institutes, or programs in any given academic year.  If applicants are selected for more than one fellowship or release, they must select one to accept. Faculty are eligible to reapply for other opportunities in subsequent years. 

Graduate Students:

Students in the College of the Liberal Arts may only accept one internal fellowship award from the college or its affiliated centers, institutes, or programs in any given academic year.  Students receiving multiple award offers will be asked to select one. Students are eligible to reapply or be nominated for other fellowship opportunities in subsequent years.
