Laura Cabrera Receives NIH Grant for Neuroethics Research on Deep Brain Stimulation
University Park, Pa. — Laura Cabrera, senior research associate at the Rock Ethics Institute and the Dorothy Foehr Huck and J. Lloyd Huck Chair in Neuroethics, has been awarded a four-year, $1.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health. The grant will fund her research on developing a patient-centered decision aid for individuals considering deep brain stimulation (DBS) for neurological disorders.
DBS, a treatment for conditions like Parkinson’s disease, involves complex decisions about risks and benefits. Cabrera’s project will help patients, caregivers, and clinicians make informed choices that align with personal values and preferences.
Cabrera’s work at the Rock Ethics Institute reflects the institute’s commitment to addressing ethical issues in medical technology and patient care. Read more about her research in a Q&A featured on Penn State News.
