Robert Chiles Awarded Fulbright for Research on Cellular Agriculture and Ethics

University Park, Pa. — Robert Chiles, associate professor of rural sociology and senior research associate at the Rock Ethics Institute, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright grant to explore the ethical and political-economic implications of cellular agriculture in South Africa. His project aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and inclusive dialogue on lab-grown meat and its role in promoting food security and climate resilience.

By organizing workshops that engage stakeholders from various sectors, Chiles’ work addresses the challenges faced by smallholder farmers and ensures that agricultural innovations do not exacerbate existing inequalities. This research will offer valuable insights into how cellular agriculture can contribute to sustainable and equitable food systems.
